A reimagined digital experience that shapes a more personalised, inspiring journey for every Westbourne audience.
We partnered with Westbourne Grammar School to completely redefine how a modern school experiences digital. Through deep discovery and an ambitious vision, we designed a platform that elevates the brand, personalises content at scale, and delivers an experience worthy of an industry-leading educational institution.
Background
The project set out to transform Westbourne’s website into an immersive, personalised digital platform that reflects their prestige, history and leadership in innovative education. Building on our many years of partnership with Westbourne, the aim was to move beyond the traditional school website format and create an experience that excites, informs and adapts to each visitor’s needs.
Objectives
Elevate the Brand & Communicate the Vision
Westbourne wanted a digital presence that reflects its long history, academic leadership and innovative approach to learning. The website needed to position Westbourne as a prestigious, future-focused institution with a strong and inspirational narrative.
Create an Audience-Centred Experience
A core goal was to ensure the website genuinely serves users, not just broadcasts information. Each audience group (new families, current parents, international students, job seekers, alumni) required tailored pathways and content that answered their questions quickly and intuitively.
Introduce Meaningful Personalisation
Westbourne wanted a modern digital platform that feels dynamic, responsive and personalised. We developed the Content Shaper framework to deliver relevant content through segmentation, behaviour signals and AI machine learning, giving every user a uniquely shaped experience.
Build the Foundations for Innovation & Scale
Given the ambition of the concept, the site required a robust, future-proof technical architecture. We recommended a Headless WordPress backend and a lightweight React front end to support performance, flexibility, personalisation and forward compatibility.
Improve Structure, Findability & Content Quality
The site needed a clear information architecture that eliminated abstract page titles, reorganised content, reduced duplication and improved discoverability across all categories.
Approach
Deep Discovery & Insights-Driven Strategy
We began with analytics reviews, a full content audit, a user-needs mapping workshop and stakeholder interviews. These inputs formed the evidence base for both the Content Shaper taxonomy and the new Information Architecture (IA).
Story-Led Experience Design
The experience was anchored in Westbourne’s core story “Shaping learners who inspire the world.”
We designed a narrative structure that:
-tells the vision,
-invites audiences in,
-shows how Westbourne delivers, and
-lets users explore interactively.
This translated into a bold homepage “globe” concept, connected content cards, and a system that responds to user input and behaviour.
Personalisation: The Content Shaper
Using user segmentation, behaviour patterns and AI machine-learning-driven relevance modelling, the Content Shaper dynamically adjusts content for:
-New families
-International families
-Current parents
-Prospective staff
-Alumni
The content taxonomy was meticulously built around what each persona needs most at each stage of their journey.
Technical Solution & Architecture
We recommended a headless build leveraging:
-WordPress for content management
-React front end for performance and animation
-Algolia for search and personalisation capabilities
This architecture supports a modern, scalable and performant platform capable of evolving as the school’s needs grow.
Wireframes & Functional Modelling
We produced a full wireframe suite covering all user journeys, modules and page types from the homepage globe to card systems, dynamic filters, and category landing pages. This defined the structural blueprint for content creation and future design phases.
