Creating a bright illustrative twist to the discussion of Advocacy

Pro Bono Australia is one of Australia’s first social businesses. Since 2000 they have provided news, jobs, education, skilled volunteering and other resources for the common good. In 2016, they helped over one million people across Australia. The Civil Voices Survey and report by Pro bono provides much-needed data and information on the extent to which people who work in not-for-profit organisations experience a restriction on their freedoms.

The project

The Civil Voices report and survey needed a digital and printable report that reflects the social sector’s right to advocate and benchmark the results against a 2004 survey developed by the Australia Institute. Pro bono wanted the digital outcome and publication to help trigger the conversation about advocacy with a creative twist.

Objectives

Engage and educate users on advocacy through quizzes

Establish brand recognition

Create a user-friendly interface for a large amount of content

Create a publication with illustrations derived from data which educate and inform

Represent the information and data derived from the civil voices to encourage users to trust Probono

Build awareness of the 2017 report findings

The solution

Taking inspiration from the passionate, fun personalities behind Civil Voices and Pro Bono, along with the data and information provided in the survey, we created a microsite and publication design equipped with colourful branding and illustrations. We wanted the designs to create a vibrant and exciting feel in order to break up the heavy content and create a design for the data which is unique.
